I Heart Biking

So many reasons why: it’s healthy, it saves money and the environment (happy earth day yo). It combats insomnia better than sitting on the subway. It’s a grand way to the see the city, engaging all the senses in an endless tracking shot of split-second impressions: the secret smile on a pretty girl, pot smoke wafting from a dark alley, a snatch of a conversation above the din of traffic, a building you never noticed before. It’s happiness like bottled lightning in a fugue of whirling grace. Happy Spring!

an eclectic/selective history of human flight

Are we but pasty-faced ghosts tethered to our desks, dreaming of the open air? Why, yes! Quoth I. The Wright Brothers. There’s something uncanny and miraculous about this footage that reaches across the ages and steals your breath away. Imagine how it felt in that muddy field in Ohio, back when moustaches were worn without irony.Secret gov’t in(s)anity '50s style. The awful quality is part of the charm, people. It’s like an aerial segway shot like a bigfoot sighting. 21st century vertiginous thrills. Complete with 'tincan' techno soundtrack.

Stan Brakhage Vs. Stereolab

The greatest abstract filmmaker ever meets the blippy bloopy groop of a few moments ago in a riot of pure vision and sound. Happy weekend.
