Midnight Madness
Spooky sci-fi parkour breakdancing nuttery from the Chemical Brothers, grittily shot by Dom & Nic.

Goodbye Ike
The great Isaac Hayes died this weekend. Here are some pictures I took from his show earlier this summer in Prospect Park. He took the stage as the sun was going down, and actually did look pretty frail (he suffered a stroke in 2006). He let the band do most of the heavy lifting musically, but his silky baritone was in fine form. All in all, 'twas a wonderful night.

Downloadable DJ sets from Sunday Best

Haven't had a chance to check out to the Sunday Best parties on the Gowanus Canel this summer, but I've been bringing the party home via their website, where the DJ sets are blissfully downloadable and addictively transportive (catch the breeze while you can, these MP3 probably glimmer in a legal grey zone, but I'm glad they exist). I'm especially partial to the soulful, blipped-out deep deep deep super deep house of Roy Davis Jr. Also glorious is the ecstatic disco of Daniel Wang, the techy mininalism of Stefan Goldmann and the gelatinous eclecticism of Riton. It's pure dance music heaven with my AC on.

Eurovision 2008
Photos from the 2008 Eurovision Contest that somehow, against all odds, make you feel good to be alive. I was rooting for France's Sebastien Tellier myself, but Latvia's Pirates Of The Sea look like they've enough snazz to light a planet. You gotta wonder (in the best sense of the word 'wonder'): are full grown adults into this?
In the 'almost as cool' department: Huey Lewis' Pineapple Express theme song and the prospect of a James Bond theme song by Jack White & Alicia Keys. Most under-rated Bond theme: Garbage's 'The World Is Not Enough'. So there.
